The MTV Africa Music Awards where held at a glamorous ceremony held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on the 22nd of October 2016. Various artists were honoured for the milestones they have achieved through their talent and hard work. Amongst them was Jah Prayzah, who won an award in the Listener’s Choice category, contesting against nineteen other nominees from all over Africa.
The annual showcase was hosted by South African media guru Bonang Matheba supported by Nomzamo Mbatha and Yemi Alade, the event, which featured a total of 18 categories, was broadcast on MTV Base. This award is a landmark in Jah Prayzah’s career as it shows that his music is being appreciated across Zimbabwe’s borders, and indeed being acknowledged. Speaking after the announcement was done, Jah Prayzah expressed his happiness and appreciation for the award, stating “For the first time in my adulthood, I feel like crying.”
The award, which comes hot on the heels of the release of his latest video of the song Mdhara Vachauya, taken of his latest album, serves as proof that the artist is indeed going places, and most definitely putting Zimbabwe on the map.
